HWC NEPAL APPLICATION

HWC – Nepal is a cloud-based human-wildlife conflict data collection and reporting system. The system consists of an Android Application (HWC – Nepal) – which is used to collect the data related to conflicts caused by the wildlife and a Web Portal (Dashboard) – where the data is collected, analyzed, visualized and reporting is done. The application can be downloaded from the following link. But only authorized users can use the application. Authorization is done through the Dashboard which is controlled by NTNC BCC Team. New record, Draft record, old record, and hotline calls taps are the main features of the application. Data collected by HWC-Nepal includes details about human loss, livestock loss, food crop loss, property loss, and others caused by wildlife.

Importance

NTNC BCC is an organization working in the field of nature conservation. Since its establishment, it has been able to successfully promote, conserve, and manage nature in all its diversity, control poaching as well as ensure maximum community participation in the wildlife conversation. But the maintenance of habitats and the reduction of damage from wildlife has not been improved significantly since the past years. So, for this, one approach is to collect the data related to conflicts caused by wildlife. The data collected from the HWC-Nepal application can be analyzed to gain valuable insights. By analyzing the data we can take appropriate actions to turn it into successful results.

Future Scope

The application has the vision to collect the data related to human-wildlife conflict over all districts of Nepal. First and foremost, data collection helps to know the trend of conflicts occurring. The effective analysis from data collection shows which area is more affected, reasons for damage, in which period of time the attack is more, and so on. Data can be visualized in graphs so that we can predict the hotspot region. Thus, it becomes clear about how much progress has been made and what are the steps that should be moved forward to make the conservation sustainable. The risks and negative impacts caused by the wildlife could be controlled efficiently. Similarly, the proper planning and evaluation could be done so that future goals and missions of NTNC BCC could be achieved.
